half awake in a fake empire

(pentax 6x7?!!)

last Wednesday i flew up to Portland, OR for a day for a funeral. I had to wake up the next morning at about 5 am after an emotional and exhausting 24 hours for the flight home to Oakland so that I'd make it back in time for work. I cant really sleep on flights- so I was completely delirious and reading poetry for an hour and 15 minutes before I eventually started staring out the window and slipped into an out-of-focus state of mind that's usually reserved for hallucinogens and Disney movies.
...and finally... FINALLY as I was listlessly observing and identifying from an unfamiliar perspective what I know to be a very familiar landscape (this being Northern California), the seedling for my senior show planted itself without the slightest provocation on my part. If my mind wasnt already a poached egg in my skull at this point, it was now scrambled with feta and splattered all over the emergency exit aisle window of my airplane. In a good way.

I wont blog about the actual revelation. I just wanted to express the experience of it... it's nice to know that there is some part of my mind that's not asleep at the wheel and seems to know what's going on, even when the rest of me is still all gooey-eyed
