holy update, batman!
in four fun parts--
PART I- (let's get linky)
A few weeks ago I went to the blurb photo book symposium in the city with our teacher. He spoke about his work and we got to hear a lot of useful things about publishing and design etc etc...
AND I MET ARTHUR TRESS. you are jealous. He was just there hanging out- i was star struck for the first time ever.
Anyway- if you don't know who he is, definitely check out his work. He's really the reason I got into photography.
PART II- (hardly strictly bluegrass)

you shall above all things be glad and young
i am resisting the temptation to post this youtube i found of a ninja cat.
I've been shooting my godsister a lot;

it occurred to me recently that she is going away to college very soon (about 5 days now) and I became hyper-nostalgic and started calling her to hang out or see a movie or bake or shop... I'm always impressed by how gracefully she is growing up. It seems always ulcer-inducing (for me) to trust friends and family that are younger than I am to come up against and deal with the things that I did at their age-- adolescence, parties, pot, booze, sex, drama, Burning Man, etc. ...I've never been to Burning Man. But I'd probably saw my nails off imagining my godsister trading knitted headbands for ganja treats or encountering a plastered 58-year-old man wandering around peeing blood and urine all over himself from dehydration-induced kidney failure. Yup. Apparently I'm missing out.
I digress...
The fuzzy line between trust and skepticism is important. I'll miss my lovely model.
I want to give her this poem. it seems relevant:
I'm pretty sure a lot of people know about that poem. I only just came across it in my book the other day and I was blown away by every line. Love that man.

you shall above all things be glad and young
For if you're young, whatever life you wear
it will become you;and if you are glad
whatever's living will yourself become.
Girlboys may nothing more than boygirls need:
i can entirely her only love
whose any mystery makes every man's
flesh put space on;and his mind take off time
that you should ever think, may god forbid
and (in his mercy) your true lover spare:
for that way knowledge lies, the foetal grave
called progress,and negation's dead undoom.
I'd rather learn from one bird how to sing
than teach ten thousand stars how not to dance
-ee cummings

FOR GLORY!
I'm not really sure why I entered this thing. I usually tend to think these things are a little silly and inconsequential, but when you're looking out from the shallow end of a 5 hour shift waiting in front of a computer, things get a whole lot less trivial.
Anyway I submitted like three photographs to this WIRED portrait photo contest. I don't know what you win. Swag. Humble yet self-indulgent conversation insertions at the bar. Eternal glory. Click the link to take a look- some of them are actually alright. I submitted like three of the photos somewhere in the meelee- if you can find 'em you can vote for me!
Help me win one of all of the afore mentioned prizes- I always wanted to be a trophy baby!

'tis better.
(Did you ever wake up, and go through that process of pulling yourself together, remembering who you are and where you are, and then where you were. What you did last night, what you've done wrong. And then you remember that you've got a big bag of candy in your bag. It's in the big pocket. You meant to eat it last night while you were watching TV but you forgot and now it's there waiting for you! It is a reason to get up. To start your day! So much candy! Life is gold gold gold gold gold gold gold gold gold.)
I loved and lost these negatives from my sea ranch trip:

i cannot ever print them.
sadness!
rest in peace little negs. whichever little trash heap you're probably snuggled in right now.
